Magallanes High School
The Secondary School is placed in the South of Tenerife Island. It enjoys a good location, being near the junction of the highway and in an area of commercial expansion. Our high school is placed in
an urban area; the socio-economic status of families is medium-low.
There are two Primary Schools near, as well as a municipality swimming pool and large supermarkets. This is a dormitory neighborhood that has grown disproportionately since 2003 to the present with the economic boom. The population has risen to 21,000 inhabitants, with diverse nationalities, most of them coming from South America, East Europe, Africa and United Kingdom some from Mainland, north Tenerife and the other islands.
As regards the characteristics of the center, it is made up of third independent blocks, as covered pavilion, a sport field, and a fighting ground. There are different laboratories, as well as a cafeteria, the time timetable is 8:30-2:30, and in the afternoon 15:00 -21:00. The Mothers and Parents association is actually more active.
Regarding the educational offer, currently there is a total of 1074 students in 25 units in CSE and Baccalaureate
The educational offer in Vocational Training comprises basic professional training FPB and Vocational Training FP of Transportation and Maintenance of Vehicles. Moreover, Cycles of Intermediate Grade as Nursing Auxiliary CAE, Health Emergencies, Pharmacy and Parapharmacy, and a Higher Degree for Laboratory Technicians.
As for the teaching staff, we currently have 76, (34 are civil servants, 41 interim-substitutes
The high school is well connected with the municipality, because there are many activities developed in the afternoon which link the relationship between the school, the municipality and the neighbors. These activities are as for example: secondary classes for adults, math classes (ESTALMAT Project of the Ministry of Education) rhythmic gymnastics among others.
We based our proposal in the EP (Educative Project), which offers an Educational Innovation based on overcoming the difficulties and disadvantages of the socioeconomic conditions of the students, providing activities which motivates them to feel integrated in the school. EP provides first quality education in response to the diversity of learning rhythms and personal circumstances. Moreover, promotes a comprehensive education that enhances the cooperative spirit, gender equality and respect for cultural differences and participation of all members of the school community in the organization and management of the centre, fostering relationships between them. Our school, promotes a healthy lifestyle. And finally, coexistence starting point for other purposes. The main strategy to achieve all this rests on the methodological adaptation, academic coordination, and continuous evaluation of the developed work and in getting collaboration of families, town hall, Social Services, and various services of the Educational Administration,
